Students vs. Community Players
There are two aspects to the MIT Badminton Club: the Intercollegiate League and the broader MIT Community. The Intercollegiate League is composed of current undergraduate and graduate students attending MIT who compete during the school year against other New England schools or in tournaments in the area. Members of this portion of the Club tend to have had some badminton training/experience or are dedicated to improving their skills, since this is a competitive league. Members of the club who wish to take part in the intercollegiate leage are expected to attend a minimum of one 2-hour training session per week.
The Community aspect of the Club is non-competitive and open to all MIT/non-MIT affiliates. Skill levels for this time tend to range from beginners to advanced intercollegiate/national level players. All are welcome and typically there will be players willing to teach beginners the rules, some technique, etc. All that the club asks is that players bring their own shuttles and rackets and clean up after themselves. Typical court reservations for the Community are Friday Nights and the latter half of Sunday afternoon (the first half being reserved for Intercollegiate League training). An up to date court schedule can be found on the schedule page of our website.
If you would like to be added to our mailing list so that you may receive court reminders during the school year, please email badmintonatmit at gmail dot com. The mailing list is available to all Community and Intercollegiate players.
